The rules of Straight8 film competition are daunting. Make a short film on one cartridge of super 8mm cine film with no editing, no re-takes, no grade, no post-production. The visuals for the film are completed in-camera, shooting in story order, editing only with each pull of the camera's trigger. Every shot you take becomes your film, no matter what. The film does not record sound so we then had to submit a separate, original soundtrack, still without having seen our film We then ship it to Cannes where they process the RAW film at the lab and they line up the soundtrack to the first frame of the picture. So most likely everything will be out of sync. And the first time we got to even see our film was together with the audience at Cannes Festival.
